Assalamualiekum and welcome to you all, our specially invited guests, to this fantastic event here at the wonderful Ironworks Brighton to celebrate the launch of a new fostering film ‘Any of Us’. And that’s the core message of this powerful film. It highlights the fact that anyone who has the capacity to care has the potential to become a foster carer. All of us can play a part in giving children a chance to thrive and become the best person they can be.
‘Any Of Us’ is the sixth film produced by a growing partnership of councils and children’s trusts to promote local authority fostering. This project is in fact the largest public sector fostering film collaboration yet, with over 80 participants from Northumberland to Brighton and Liverpool to Kent. We at Brighton & Hove are proud and delighted to be a part of this universal and vital message: We all need more people to step forward and become foster carers.
Fostering directly with Brighton & Hove means that you can support your local community by working a with a fostering service that is dedicated to supporting local children and young people who need a nurturing, safe fostering home. It is our responsibility as a city to support our fostering service in whatever ways we can. This might be you encouraging local businesses to become more fostering friendly for their employees or perhaps using your social media platforms to show your support and therefore raising the profile of fostering. We can all work together to amplify the urgent message that more foster carers are needed. It all counts.
As part of the launch, you will also see some specially produced films by Neil Pringle including hearing from some of our foster carers and care experienced young people. All ordinary people doing remarkable things, drawn to hope, and not pushed by fear.
You’ll be entertained by the multitalented Al Start from Go Kid Music who has delivered marvellous music sessions to our looked after children.
And we will be asking you to play your part by writing your own pledge to support fostering by filling in the form found on your chairs that we will collect up at the end. Thank you to all foster parents, local MM and all cllrs.
I am delighted as deputy mayor to be here to open this event.
